Financial Counseling
OUR GOAL
Our goal is to give young men and
women, based on the Word of God, the knowledge and resources to
face the complex choices of our society. We also seek to train
them up in the principles of stewardship. If we are ever going
to develop a financially sound society, the best place to start
is with our youth. If, as a teen, you are prepared to face the
world of automated banking, free wheeling credit cards, and easy
government loans, you’ll be well on your way to becoming the
steward God wants you to be. This seminar may be the best
investment parents will ever make into their children’s future.
MONEY MATTERS FOR TEENS
If you don’t have plans for how to
spend your money, plenty of others are willing to spend it for
you. Advertisers, Friends, Credit Card companies, Relatives,
Fast food restaurants, Clothing stores. If you don’t want others
to keep spending all of your money for you, it’s time to take
this seminar.
Money is powerful. With it people
can pay living expenses, pay for fun things, save for what they
need or want to buy later, or buy stuff for other people. Money
can also be used to divide families, cheat people, or invest in
really dumb things. Money for Teens will help you learn to use
the power of money for good things.
Money Matters for Teens is based
on the materials created by Larry Burkett. Its purpose is to
provide tips and tools Teens need to understand biblical
principles of stewardship. It is committed to seeing the next
generation grounded in God’s Word and living by His principles.
TODAY'S WORLD
It’s an unfortunate fact that we
are sending our young people off into a very complicated world,
unprepared to make the financial decisions they will be facing.
Most young people today enter college thinking there is no
alternative to borrowing and, yet, fully half of all student
loans aren’t spent on college education. Instead, they are used
to buy cars and stereos and even vacations. The struggles of
repaying these loans will financially strap many young people
for years after college.
Parents cannot abdicate the
teaching of finances to the schools, because the schools are not
teaching it. It’s astounding to think that you can get through
elementary school, high school, and college and still not know
how to balance a checkbook, or buy a home, or decide what kind
of insurance you need. But, unfortunately that’s the norm.
Today, college students can borrow
thousands of dollars for their education. In addition, they have
credit cards, car loans, and automatic teller cards. As a
result, they often start their working careers tens of thousands
of dollars in debt. People don’t intend to borrow so much money
that they lose their cars, their homes, and even their families.
They make these decisions out of a lack of understanding. It is
sad that half of all marriages today fail and overwhelmingly,
the major factor is the mismanagement of money. However, these
statistics aren’t inevitable. The problems can be avoided if the
right decisions are made early enough - decisions like how to
use credit cards wisely, how to live on a budget and how to know
what kind of a car, clothes, and house to buy. Learning wise
money management for teens is definitely a step in the right
direction.
